Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-LHCb
Deadline: 2016-07-01
Region: Europe

Job description:
The main physics goal of the LHCb experiment is to challenge the Standard Model through the precision study of CP Violation and rare decays in the charm and beauty sector. The French laboratories have strongly contributed to the realisation of the Calorimeters and the First Level Trigger of the experiment. They are also actively engaged in the analysis of the physics data and on the upgrade of the detector expected in 2019, during the long shutdown 2 of the LHC.
The Annecy LAPP LHCb team has played a leading role in the construction and the commissioning of the calorimeter sub-systems.  It is now committed to their operation. These responsibilities include the detector calibration and performance monitoring, for the use of calorimeter objects in physics analyses.  The group is also involved in the coordination of the various sub-system firmwares, to operate the DAQ of the experiment at 40 MHz in its upgrade phase.
The LAPP LHCb team has a wide range of physics interests and has been substantially contributing to the measurements of the production of quarkonia, radiative B decays, charmonium and open charm b-hadron decays. Based on a long expertise, the group participates to the collaborative effort towards a precise measurement of a fundamental parameter: the CKM angle γ.
The successful applicant is mainly expected to take an active part in data analysis activities and to possibly participate to the LHCb detector operations, through general and expert shifts. He or she will contribute to the ongoing analysis activities in the group related to the CKM angle γ (possible channels are: B- to D* K-, D K*-, D[K0Sπ-π+π0] K- and B(s) to D K+K-).
Interested applicants should have a PhD degree in Particle Physics (prior experience within the field of CP violation, Heavy Flavour physics or LHCb would be considered as a plus). They should submit a cover letter explaining the interest in the position, a detailed Curriculum Vitae (including a description of their research experience, with a list of publications, highlighting their personal contributions), and arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly, by the referees. The application form should be posted to: postdoc-lhcb2016@lapp.in2p3.fr - Applications should be received before July 1st, 2016. We reserve the right not to make an appointment and continue searching after the closing date. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
The appointment is for 2 years, starting on September 1st, 2016. The position is funded by the French CNRS/IN2P3 with no nationality restriction. Depending on previous working experience, the candidate can expect a net monthly salary between 2000 € and 3000 €.
