Job description:
Postdoctoral Research Position on Belle and Belle II

Experimental Particle Physics
Virginia Tech

The experimental particle physics group at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University invites applications for one postdoctoral research scientist position. The Virginia Tech group is involved in the study of heavy flavor physics and precision tests of the Standard Model in the Belle and Belle II experiments at the KEK laboratory in Japan. The successful candidate will perform analyses in heavy flavor physics for conference presentations and journal publications using the Belle experiment’s legacy data set and assist our graduate students in their Belle physics analyses, presentations and publications. The successful candidate will also participate in the commissioning and operation of the KLM (KLong and Muon) particle identification detector for the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric e+e- collider at the KEK laboratory. This will involve the maintenance and operation of the KLM’s resistive plate counters and scintillator-strip counters, development and testing of the KLM signal readout and trigger, and the development and testing of the associated off-line software (simulation, reconstruction, particle identification, and trigger). Regular oral presentations, written progress reports, and travel to KEK and other Belle / Belle II collaborating institutions will be required to fulfill these objectives. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension for up to three years. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics or a related field. Experience with experimental particle physics hardware and data analysis is preferred. Candidates should submit their letter of interest, curriculum vitae, list of publications, and three references via http://www.jobs.vt.edu (job posting #SR0160048)

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
