To enlarge our activities in the detector development we have an opening in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Department of Physics, in the research field of “experimental particle physics” for a research assistant (PhD student) (salary group 13 TV-L) with half of the regular work time until 30. June 2018 with the possibility to prolong the employment. The duration of employment conforms to the law on fixed-term contracts for scientific employees (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz).
Your responsibilities:
• Development of a time projection chamber (TPC), especially of readout structures for a TPC, e.g. GEM development and testing
• Participation in data taking at external accelerators, e.g. DESY, CERN or KEK • Development of software for operation and readout of a TPC
• Supervision of undergraduate students.
This is a PhD student position. We offer the opportunity to write a PhD thesis within the regular assignment of duties.
You possess:
• Very good final degree (Master of Science or diploma in physics) in the field of experimental particle physics.
• Ability to work independently.
• Experience in detector development and particle physics.
• Knowledge of C++ and ROOT is an advantage.
