Two 3-year post-doctoral positions in Cosmology and Gravitational Physics.
The Department of Physics of the University of Cyprus welcomes applications for two post-doctoral research positions in Cosmology and Gravitational Physics to start in September 2016 for a total period of 3 years (initial contract for 1 year, renewable for a further 2 years).
The positions are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) grant ERC-2013-617656-TheMoDS: “Theories and Models of the Dark Sector: Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Gravity”. The areas of interest to the TheMoDS project include:
− Theoretical investigations of gravitational theories beyond General Relativity.
− Model-independent tests of gravity and the dark sector.
− Cosmological probes of dark energy and gravity.
− The parameterized Post-Newtonian Formalism and applications.
− Parameter estimation and statistical inference.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in Physics with a strong background in cosmology, gravity or field-theory by the time of application and a good knowledge of English. Experts in field-theoretical aspects of gravitational theories, on model building and effective field theory or with a strong background in statistical methods with applications to cosmology, are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate is expected devote the majority of their time working on the TheMoDS project. The group currently consists of the PI, Constantinos Skordis, and two post-doctoral researchers, Michael Kopp and Daniel Thomas.
The gross annual salary is between 36 266 and 40 838 EUR (employer cost) from which the employee and employer’s national contributions will be subtracted. A generous travel budget of 4000 EUR per year is offered. Starting at an earlier date may be considered.
The application:
Applicants are requested to send their application including:
− A letter of interest (stating the broad expertise of the candidate and how they think they can contribute to the project).
− Curriculum Vitae.
− Statement of research interests and research profile (strictly maximum 2 pages, font size 11).
− List of Publications.
− Scanned copies of University degrees.
− Names and contact details of three academic referees who will be writing a reference letter.
All application material should preferably be sent as a single pdf file via email to gcapp@ucy.ac.cy (or gc-applications@ucy.ac.cy) by 5 April 2016.
Reference letters:
The referees must sent the reference letters directly to gcapp@ucy.ac.cy (or gc-applications@ucy.ac.cy), with the applicant’s name in the subject line (preferably in pdf format). The applicants must themselves contact the referees and it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the letters arrive by the deadline, 5 April 2016.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Constantinos Skordis, email skordis@ucy.ac.cy. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
