“La Caixa” Foundation is a non-profit organization that has established an International PhD Fellowship program aiming to attract young talent worldwide. Under this program, four-year pre-doctoral fellowships are offered to suitable candidates to perform their thesis work in those Spanish research institutes which have been officially accredited as Centres of Excellence Severo Ochoa.
The Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) is a joint centre of the University of Valencia and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which was awarded the Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence accreditation in 2014. IFIC has strong theoretical and experimental research groups working in Nuclear, Particle and Astroparticle Physics.
“La Caixa” Foundation has selected IFIC to fund doctoral fellowships aimed at highly qualified graduates to undertake their doctoral studies within its research groups.
IFIC invites applications for two fellowships for exceptional candidates to carry out a theoretical PhD thesis in the research line “Particle Phenomenology, the Standard Model and Beyond”.
Candidates should have an excellent academic track record, and are expected to hold an academic degree that grants access to a Spanish PhD program by September/October 2016.
Successful candidates will be hired as “La Caixa” - Severo Ochoa Fellows for a period of four years starting September or October 2016. The gross salary will progressively increase from 18.546 € the first year to 22.558 € the fourth year. An annual additional budget of 1.500 € during the first two years and 1.700 € during the last two years will be available to cover PhD tuition fees, participation in international conferences, etc. The research group will also provide funds for visits to other research centres and participation in international events.

IFIC hosts very strong theoretical and experimental groups.
IFIC’s researchers participate in several experiments in Particle, Astroparticle and Nuclear Physics as well as in the applications of these disciplines to other fields of Science and Technology. IFIC’s scientists work in the ATLAS, LHCb and MOEDAL experiments at CERN and in the preparation for future accelerators (ILC and CLIC); in the GRID for the LHC; in the neutrino telescopes ANTARES and KM3NeT and in Neutrino Physics, in the NEXT and T2K experiments; in Nuclear Physics, in the AGATA experiment in the future accelerator FAIR and in the nTOF experiment at CERN. Finally, the group of Medical Physics carries out several activities related mainly to medical imaging and accelerator developments.
The research interests of the theory groups at IFIC cover a wide variety of topics in Theoretical Particle Physics such as Particle Physics phenomenology in the Standard Model and beyond (including collider, flavour, Higgs and Neutrino Physics), QCD and strong interactions, Astroparticle Physics, Cosmology, Gravitation and Black Holes, Quantum Information, Nuclear and Many-Body physics.
