Job description:
Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the CMS Upgrade, University of Bristol, United Kingdom
Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant, working in the Particle Physics Group at the University of Bristol. The successful applicant will play a major role in R&D for the upgrade of the tracker of the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, primarily working on the testing of detector system prototypes and the development of associated readout systems.
You should have a PhD in experimental particle physics, knowledge of particle detection techniques, and experience with ionising particle detectors and be able to fault-find electronic systems. You should also have good written and spoken communication skills, be independent and self-motivated with a proactive and flexible approach to your work. Experience of leading and coordinating projects is desirable.
The Bristol CMS group consists currently of approximately 20 physicists, students and support staff, including five academic staff. The group was involved in the design and construction of the CMS ECAL, Level-1 trigger, and computing system, and continues to make major contributions to CMS physics results in SUSY, exotic and top physics. The group is now active in R&D for future upgrades of the CMS tracker, trigger and calorimeter.
This Postdoctoral Researcher position is part of the STFC-funded CMS UK upgrade project, which currently runs until 31st March 2019. It is hoped that support will be renewed in subsequent project proposals.
All applications must be made online.
