Job description:
Two postdoctoral positions in the fields of Planetary Science and Physics at Extreme Conditions are to be filled in the group of Prof. B. Militzer in the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley (http://militzer.berkeley.edu).
The planetary work is focused on modeling the interiors of the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn. This work is supported by NASA missions Juno and Cassini. A new suite of interior models will be constructed in order to provide a more detailed interpretation of the recent gravity measurements of both missions.  Commonalities and differences between the interiors of Jupiter and Saturn are to be analyzed.

The Physics at Extreme Conditions project is focused on first-principles computer simulations of materials at megabar pressures. Path integral Monte Carlo and density functional molecular dynamics simulations will be performed to characterize the equation of state, melting, phase relations and to compare with ongoing experimental work. This project is supported by grants from DOE, NNSA, and the University of California.

Basic Qualifications:  At the time of application, the basic minimum qualification is the completion of all PhD degree requirements except the dissertation.

Additional Required Qualifications: 1) A PhD or equivalent degree in planetary science, physics, astrophysics, geophysics, or related fields is required by the start date. 2) A demonstrated track record of published papers.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The department is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their work. UC Berkeley offers excellent health and welfare packages.
