The Max Planck Institut für Kernphysik is one of about 80 research institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science e.V. (MPG). The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organization, which seeks to promote basic research in the service of the general public.
The division of particle physics and high energy astrophysics (division Hofmann/Hinton) at the Max- Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg, (Germany) offers a
PhD student position
at the GERDA/LEGEND group at MPIK.
GERDA and LEGEND search for neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge. MPIK is a leading group of both experiments with various hardware responsibilities and involved in the data analysis. GERDA is currently operating a second phase of data taking and preparations for LEGEND have started.
Your Profile/Requirements:
The successful candidates will contribute to the ongoing data analysis and to hardware developments for the future project.
The positions will be filled at the earliest convenience.
The contract period is for 3 years with the possibility of extension. The salary will be paid according to the collective agreement for civil service employees in Germany (TVöD).

Your Profile/Requirements:
- Master degree in experimental astro-particle physics or related fields like particle or nuclear physics
- basic knowledge in computing and data analysis and/or hardware experience, preferably on C, C++, ROOT and Geant4
- high level of motivation
