Job description:
The Atlas@Clermont group (http://cern.ch/atlas-clermont) is offering a 36 months PhD position starting in October or November 2018 on analysis of LHC data recorded with the ATLAS detector at CERN.

The Atlas@Clermont team has a long experience on the top-quark physics and in particular of the search for top-antitop resonances. The first part of the thesis will be dedicated to this search to conclude the analysis of the LHC Run 2 data. Then, depending on the interest of the student, the focus will be given either to another search for new particles or to top-quark physics precision measurements. In any case the analyses will be developed thanks to Monte-Carlo simulations and then be confronted with ATLAS’ data. The team is also involved in detector operation and developments for the future upgrade, and some contributions by the PhD student on these fields are also expected.

The position is located at the Laboratoire de Physique de Clermont-Ferrand, France, with regular trips to CERN. It is funded by Université Clermont Auvergne, with a net salary of around 1300 euros per month. Travels to CERN, workshops, schools and conferences will be fully funded by CNRS.

Speaking french is not mandatory and free french courses will be available. Good knowledge of english is necessary. The application of females is encouraged as Atlas@Clermont applies affirmative-action measures to ensure gender equality in the recruitment process.

Interested applicants should have a Master degree in Particle Physics or equivalent with excellent ranking, with good knowledge of the theoretical aspects (QED, QCD, electroweak theory) and of programming techniques (C++, python, ROOT). The applicants should send a letter of interest and a CV to AtlasClermont.job@cern.ch not later than April 30, 2018.
