Astrophysics group at Istanbul University Department of Astronomy &
Space Sciences invites applications for a visiting assistant/associate
professor. The successful candidate is expected to guide senior
undergraduate and graduate students, teach a course at graduate level and
participate in the astrophysics group's research activities.
We are seeking for a highly motivated individual who will contribute to
or play a leading role in areas that will strengthen and complement the
ongoing research programs in the astrophysics group. Current research
areas of the astrophysics group encompass observational studies helping
understand the structure of our Galaxy, observational studies of
cataclysmic variables and observational high energy astrophysics;
especially studies of isolated neutron stars, low mass X-ray binaries or
Active Galactice Nuclei.
Candidates with overlapping interests and a solid background on optical
spectroscopy, optical/near-IR instrumentation and/or observational high
energy astrophysics are especially encouraged to apply.
The funding for the position is provided by the Council of Higher
Education of the Turkish Government and is for one year but renewable
every following year.
Preferred starting date is early 2015 but can be delayed a few months
if necessary. Applicants are requested to submit their cover letter, CV,
publication list, a research statement, and arrange two letters of
recommendations to be sent directly to Prof. Dr. Tansel AK
(tanselak@istanbul.edu.tr). In order to receive full consideration,
complete applications should be received by December 1th, 2014.
