Postdoctoral Research Assistant - LZ Dark Matter Search
Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £31,604 – £38,833 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics, working with the LZ Dark Matter Search group. The post is full-time and available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2 years. The normal place of work will be Oxford. The LZ project is constructing the LZ liquid xenon dark matter detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility to search for WIMP dark matter at unprecedented sensitivity level. The successful candidate will take a leading role in the commissioning of the LZ detector, LZ simulation tasks and data analysis. The PDRA will lead the installation of instrumentation that has been developed at Oxford into the detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility and will develop analysis software enabling full use of the data from that instrumentation within the main analysis framework of LZ. Working closely with other LZ groups they will lead specific contributions to the simulation and analysis framework. Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in particle physics/astroparticle physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in dark matter data analysis, low-background expertise or high-precision instrumentation. Previous experience in direct dark matter searches and analysis of data from noble liquid detectors will be an advantage. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach. Please read the “Person Specification and Job Description” before preparing your application. You will be required to upload a curriculum vita, a description of research experience and interests and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition you should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to: sue.geddes@physics.ox.ac.uk by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not reference letters. Informal enquiries about this post may be made to: hans.kraus@physics.ox.ac.uk. Only applications received promptly by 12.00 noon on 6 April 2018 can be considered.
