Job description:
Berkeley Lab’s Nuclear Science Division has an opening for a Relativistic Nuclear Collisions (RNC) Postdoctoral Scholar. You will Initiate and contribute to analyses of the STAR experiment. Will work on ultra-relativistic heavy ion physics.
The RNC plays a leading role in the Heavy Flavor Tracker (HFT) project and physics analysis which is aimed for precision measurements of heavy flavor hadrons to address key issues in the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma at RHIC. RNC is also leading the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program and particularly working on the preparation for the BES phase-II program which will take place in the next few years.
What You Will Do:
Analysis of existing STAR physics and publication of their results.
Contribute to the HFT data analysis.
Contribute to upcoming BES-II data analysis and detector calibrations in STAR.
Report results to supervisor.
Exercise independent judgment and contribute in an original manner at the professional level.
Publish papers/reports in refereed journals, and make oral presentations of own work.
Mentor students in their research at LBNL and UC Berkeley.
Additional Responsibilities as needed:
May supervise PhD students.
Other duties as assigned.
What Is Required:
Recent Ph.D. in high-energy physics, or a closely related field.
Experience with data analysis.
Proficiency in written and oral dissemination of scientific results.
Ability to work independently and in collaboration in a research environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Ability to advise and coach graduate and undergraduate student assistants in research.

Notes:
This is a full time 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
