DESY
DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.
DESY at its Zeuthen location near Berlin is a leading centre for astroparticle physics with a focus on gamma-ray astronomy, neutrino astronomy, and the development of new detection technologies for future astroparticle physics experiments.
The Position
DESY hosts one of the largest groups in the IceCube neutrino experiment and is strongly involved in IceCube data analysis and the operation of the ex- periment. The DESY group also plays a major role in the preparations for an extension of IceCube, focusing on development of new optical sensors and surface detectors as well as design and performance studies. The successful candidate should expect to take a leading role in the ongoing R&D activities and the planning of the IceCube extension and will also have the opportunity to engage in IceCube data analysis.
Requirements
Ph.D. in physics or astronomy
Experience in the design or development of astroparticle or particle
physics experiments
Experience in modern software programming
Excellent communication skills and knowledge of English
Outstanding teamwork abilities

The position is limited to 2 years, with a possible prolongation for another year.
Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organi- sations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
