Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-CMS
Deadline: 2018-03-20
Region: Europe
Job description:
The experimental particle physics group at Ghent university is participating in large international collaborations: the CMS experiment at CERN’s LHC, the IceCube, neutrino telescope at the south pole, as well as a smaller scale dedicated short baseline neutrino experiment, Solid.
The CMS team in Ghent consists of about 15 physicists who are engaged in the analysis of the LHC data for new physics searches (Supersymmetry and exotic signatures) and precision measurements in the top quark sector, as well as building detectors for CMS. The group was responsible for the construction of a substantial part of the resistive plate chambers (RPC) of CMS in the endcap region and plays a strong role in future upgrades of the CMS muon detector with GEM technology.
The group has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher with an appointment starting May 2017 or later. We are seeking an outstanding candidate who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a PhD in experimental particle physics. The position is available for an initial three year period with the possibility of extension.
The successful candidate is expected to join and drive the group's contributions in the LHC Run-II data analysis in the area of searches for new physics, in particular searches for Heavy sterile neutrinos using displaced lepton signatures. Supervising PhD and master students is also part of the duties. He or she will (preferentially) be based in Ghent, with regular travels foreseen to attend collaboration meetings, workshops, and conferences.
The position is open to candidates of any nationality. Applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and a list of selected publications indicating their personal contributions, all in one pdf file, to Prof. Didar Dobur (Didar.Dobur@cern.ch) before March 20 2018. The candidates should arrange three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address.
