Job description:
The IU experimental nuclear physics group has an active and diverse program addressing fundamental questions in nuclear physics, particle physics, and astrophysics/cosmology. Group members are leaders in a wide range of experiments, including: investigations of the flavor and spin structure of the nucleon using the STAR detector at RHIC and Belle at KEK; studies of parity and time reversal violation between nucleons at NIST and SNS, measurements of neutrino properties at Fermilab, SNS, and WIPP, neutron decay and neutron interferometry at NIST and LANSCE, and searches for electric dipole moments and possible exotic spin-dependent interactions. The group is a part of the Center for the Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM) at IU which includes research in condensed matter, accelerator, and theoretical physics. Group members include several undergraduate and graduate students and professional staff in electronics, mechanical engineering, and cryogenic design. Local facilities include a low-energy neutron source (LENS) available for neutron detector development and testing, a polarized 3He lab, a dilution refrigerator and helium reliquifier, and an isolated lab for weak force measurement. The laboratory possesses infrastructure on a scale which enables us to make major hardware contributions to experiments. Opportunities are available on all major research projects.
A Ph.D. in experimental subatomic physics or precision measurement is required. Initial appointments as a postdoctoral research associate will be for one year, with possible renewal for up to two additional years. Applications, including a curriculum vita and three letters of reference, should be submitted through the application portal located at http://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/1627. Questions regarding the position or application process can be directed to Prof. Rex Tayloe (rtayloe@indiana.edu). For more information about the group research, see http://ceem.indiana.edu/nphysics.shtml. Indiana University is an equal employment and affirmative action employer and a provider of ADA services. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ethnicity, color, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or identity, national origin, disability status or protected veteran status.
