Job description:
The theoretical high energy phenomenology group led by Stefano Forte  at
Milan University
(Italy) invites applications for two PhD fellowships, funded
by the N3PDF ERC Advanced Grant.
The successful applicants will be enrolled in the PhD school at Milan
university in the beginning of the academic year 2018-2019
and will be expected to graduate within  three years having satisfied
the necessary requirements (http://phd.fisica.unimi.it/). Their
PhD fellowship will be fully funded. In addition

results and techniques in perturbative QCD, machine learning,
statistical modeling and inference, with  the determination of parton
distributions in mind as a non-exclusive goal. The team will be in
close contact with the NNPDF collaboration, currently counting 15 members at 12
institutions in five European countries (see http://nnpdf.mi.infn.it),
and participate in biannual collaboration meeting and frequent exchange
programs.

One of the two PhD projects will be focused on machine learning, and
the other on QCD resummation, but both PhD students will be expected
to interact with each other and with the rest of the team and be
involved in all its scientific aspects.

Candidates expecting to complete a Master
degree in Physics or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
An interest in interdisciplinary applications, and
willingness to work in a team would be appreciated.

Applications should be submitted through Academic Jobs Online.
They should  include a CV with a brief statement of research
interests; applicants
should also arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent.
Applications are encouraged at any time, but in order to receive full
consideration they should be submitted
by April 1, 2018.
