Job description:
The High Energy Physics Division at the Argonne National Laboratory has a postdoctoral opening in the Intensity Frontier Group, focusing on precision muon physics. The Division performs cutting-edge research facilitated through advanced detector development, high-performance supercomputing (HPC), a superconducting test magnet facility and innovative electronic and mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will (1) test and commission detector components for the Mu2e experiment and (2) take an active role in the Muon g-2 experiment with emphasis on data analysis. Other activities, such as performing HPC-based physics simulations for the Mu2e experiment are encouraged.
:
- Applicants must have recently received a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy.
- Considerable analytical skills to develop and interpret physics and background simulations, to perform measurements and to interpreting the data.
- Ability to use programming languages for data analysis or for modeling system performance.
- Demonstration of problem solving skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to produce scientific reports and to present ideas and proposals to scientists and engineers.
- Experience with detector systems and/or electronics is desirable.
