Job description:
The Key Laboratory of Particle Physics and Particle Irradiation (MOE) at the ShanDong University invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow in nuclear experimental physics, with a focus on instrumentation for STAR experiment’s forward upgrade project. The expected start of employment is April 1, 2018. The appointment is initially for two years with the option to renew for up to three year, contingent on satisfactory performance, budgets and mutual agreement.
The STAR forward upgrade is aimed to explore QCD physics in the very high and low regions of Bjorken x. The candidate is expected to work on the development of the Forward Tracking System (FTS) based on Silicon and thin-gap gas chamber (TGC) detector technologies.The FTS R&D and construction is an international project. The candidate is expected to collaborate with University of Illinois at Chicago, Brookhaven National Laboratory and several other institutions. Significant time for station at collaborating institutions will be expected.
Qualification: We seek an outstanding, highly motivated candidate. A PhD in experimental nuclear, particle, astro-particle physics, electrical engineering, or a related field is required; some experience with modern particle detectors and data analysis techniques is also required. Previous experience with silicon detector is desired but not required.
Compensation: We offer a competitive stipend, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The funding is supported by the national grant for “The Recruitment Program for Young Professionals” with Prof. Li Yi at Shandong University.
