Job description:
The Department of Physics at the University of Toronto invites applications for one tenurestream appointment in the area of Experimental Particle Astrophysics. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2018.
The University of Toronto is a member of the Canadian Particle Astrophysics Research Centre (CPARC), a program supported by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF). A major goal of CPARC is to build a transnational research team contributing to the many diverse requirements of a world-leading particle astrophysics research program including the SNOLAB experimental program. The experimental high energy physics group at the University of Toronto has researchers who are already contributing to this goal through the search for dark matter at SuperCDMS-SNOLAB and the study of neutrinos at T2K, Super-Kamiokande, and Hyper- Kamiokande.
We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, and with evidence of excellence in both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to mount an innovative and competitive research program. We are seeking outstanding candidates whose research is complementary to existing research efforts in the Department of Physics and well-aligned with the research goals of CPARC. Evidence of excellence in teaching is demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, performance as a teaching assistant, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, conference presentations, as well as strong letters of reference and teaching materials submitted with the application, including a teaching statement. Excellence in innovative research is demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals, or a research pipeline that is at high international levels,presentations at major conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.
In addition to collaborations within CPARC, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with existing groups in experimental and theoretical high-energy physics at the University of Toronto as well as with researchers in related fields in the Department of Physics, the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics.
