Job description:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position on theoretical investigation of ultrafast spin processes in solids (e.g., demagnetisation) following their X-ray irradiation.
Recently, the next-generation light sources, free-electron lasers (FELs) have opened new horizons in studying structure of matter, in particular, in a time-resolved way. Experiments performed with FELs in a pump-probe scheme make possible to study temporal progress of various reactions and transitions, in particular of ultrafast spin processes, with femtosecond time resolution. The aim of this theory project is to investigate X-ray induced spin processes in solids. A dedicated simulation scheme should be developed, including the framework of the density functional theory (DFT). It will bebased on an already existing simulation scheme XTANT which turned out to be very successful for describing ultrafast X-ray induced structural transitions in solids. The predictionsobtained with the model will be verified bytheir comparison with available experimental data. Thischallenging project of implication both to fundamental research as well as to applied scienceswill be performed withinthe Department of Computational Materials Scienceat the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences located in the international city of Krakow (Poland) - in a close collaboration with the Theory Group at the Center for Free-Electron-Laser Science at DESY in Hamburg(Germany).
Candidateswith excellent grades, holding a PhD Degree in theoretical physics are invited to apply. Good programming skills, proven experience in analytical calculations, good knowledge of English are mandatory. Applications (in English) including: (i) curriculum vitae, (ii) list of publications and conference presentations, (iii) copies of academic certificates, (iv) at least two letters of reference should be sent per electronic mail to:

Thispostdoctoral position will beaffiliated at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Krakow. The successful candidate will have to pass the entrance selection procedure at the Institute. The duration of the position is limited to 2-4 years.
Questions on the position details should be addressed per e-mail to Prof. Dr. Przemyslaw Piekarz at:przemyslaw.piekarz@ifj.edu.pl
The work schedule includes scientific stays at the CFEL-DESY Theory Group in Hamburg. Thisgroup develops theoretical and computational tools to predict the behavior of matter exposed to intense electromagnetic radiation. For more details please see:https://desy-theory.cfel.de/e17879/e22222/
The application deadline is 31January 2018.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. The expected position start is April-May2018.
