Job description:
Applications are invited for three 3.5-year DPhil (PhD) studentships in the Particle Theory group at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics, University of Oxford, from 1st October 2016. These are funded by the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and cover University and College fees for all EU nationals, and provide in addition a maintenance award for UK residents only. For the detailed eligibility criteria, see: https://www.stfc.ac.uk/1512.aspx .

The Particle Theory group is based at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics of the University of Oxford. The academic staff are Jorge Casalderrey-Solana, Joseph Conlon, Ulrich Haisch, Andre Lukas, John March-Russell, Juan Rojo, Subir Sarkar, Andrei Starinets, John Wheater and Giulia Zanderighi. The research interests of the group cover a broad range of topics, including quantum chromodynamics, collider phenomenology, physics beyond the Standard Model, astroparticle physics and cosmology, as well as field theory, quantum gravity, string theory and holography. A full list of research interests and supervisor availability can be found here: http://www2.physics.ox.ac.uk/research/particle-theory/graduate-study/supervisors-research-topics.
Candidates are encouraged to contact any member of the academic staff to discuss research interests. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in physics by the start date of the post and a strong background in theoretical physics. Our graduate training programme constitutes part of the Oxford Master Course in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (http://mmathphys.physics.ox.ac.uk/).

Information about the Particle Theory group and The Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics is available on http://www2.physics.ox.ac.uk/research/rudolf-peierls-centre-for-theoretical-physics and specific enquiries should be directed to Dr Ulrich Haisch (ulrich.haisch@physics.ox.ac.uk) and Dr Juan Rojo (juan.rojo@physics.ox.ac.uk)

To apply, please follow the standard procedure of applying for graduate study in Theoretical Physics:
http://www2.physics.ox.ac.uk/study-here/postgraduates/theoretical-physics. Women are particularly encouraged to apply. Only applications received by noon on 22 January 2016 will be considered. We abide by the STFC rule of giving successful applicants until 31 March 2016 to make a decision.

You will be required to fill in the application form (please indicate “STFC” in the field “Title of research project” and “supervisor name” as “proposed supervisor” if known on application), submit a CV, brief statement of research interests, and details of three academic referees.
