Job description:
The Theoretical High Energy Phenomenology group led by Stefano Forte at Milan University (Italy) invites applications for two postdoctoral positions, funded by the N$^3$PDF ERC Advanced Grant. The positions are for two+one years, starting September 2018, and carry a competitive salary and a generous travel allowance.
Applicants from all areas of high energy phenomenology are invited to apply. The N$^3$PDF project aims at the development of innovative theoretical and phenomenological results and techniques in perturbative QCD, machine learning, statistical modeling and inference, with the determination of parton distributions in mind as a non-exclusive goal. Competence and a strong interest in one or more topics among: higher order QCD calculations and resummation, machine learning, Monte Carlo methods, computer science and mathematical physics would be a plus. An interest in interdisciplinary applications, and willingness to work in a team would be appreciated. Frequent interactions with the NNPDF collaboration are expected.
The staff in the Milan group includes Stefano Forte, Alessandro Vicini, and Giancarlo Ferrera, currently two postdocs (German Sborlini and Stefano Di Vita) and three Ph.D. students. There are close contacts with the Milan-Bicocca phenomenology group and with the local string and statistical mechanics groups, as well as with the ATLAS and Borexino experimental groups.
Applications should be submitted through Academic Jobs Online. They should include a CV with a brief statement of research interests; applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent.
The selection will be made in late December and applications are encouraged until then.
