Experimental Particle Physics (041467) - Postdoc at Edinburgh U.

The Experimental Particle Physics group (PPE) at the University of Edinburgh is building up a strong activity in neutrino long baseline experiments. These will be able to probe CP violation in neutrino oscillations which could give us insight in how matter and antimatter are produced. Recently the UK announced a £65M investment in the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) where neutrinos will be sent from Fermilab over 1300 km to the DUNE detectors in South Dakota. The UK groups are leading two large projects within DUNE on data acquisition and liquid Argon detectors.

We want to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to strengthen and widen our activities in the field of neutrino physics and to contribute to the DUNE project. Our activities in this area are related to data acquisition, networking, detector simulation and photodetector development. You will be expected to contribute to the optimisation of the data acquisition for the DUNE detector and to performance studies with the protoDune experiment at CERN. There may be scope for a suitable candidate to continue an existing activity in neutrino physics, either at Fermilab or the T2K experiment.

Candidates are expected to have, or to be about to submit for, a PhD in particle physics and proven expertise and technical abilities required for playing a leading role in data analysis. The position will initially be until the end of Sep 2019, with a possibility of extension for DUNE construction and data taking.
