Job description:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position starting in the Fall of 2016 in field of supernova cosmology to be based in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Michael Wood-Vasey on supernovae and cosmology on ongoing and future surveys. In particular the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to work on the data from the SweetSpot study of 120 Type Ia supernovae in the near infrared. The SweetSpot program is finishing data collection in 2015-2016 and will provide opportunities for key insights into supernova behavior in the near-infrared, anchoring future high-redshift surveys, and studying local bulk flows and convergence to the smooth cosmic expansion. The postdoc would also have the opportunity to participate in SDSS-IV and the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration. The successful applicant should have expertise in at least several of the following areas: photometry, spectroscopy, atmospheric calibration, supernovae, or cosmology. The job is contingent upon the completion of the requirements for a PhD. The appointment is intended to be for two years with the expectation of extension to a third year contingent upon performance.
