Job description:
Research Assistant Professor
Dark Matter in CCDs

The DAMIC group at University of Chicago has been developing during the last few years a novel technique for direct detection of dark matter particles employing Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs). A 100 g DAMIC detector is currently taking data at the SNOLAB underground laboratory in Sudbury, Canada.   The next stage of the experiment involves the design, construction and operation of a kg-size detector based on this technology. The candidate will participate in all aspects of this novel effort.

A Ph.D. in the area of particle physics, astrophysics, or a related field is required. Additional requirements are:

1.  At least three (3) years of postdoctoral experience in particle physics, astrophysics, or a related field;

2.  Demonstrated experience in design, construction, calibration and operation of a complex experiment gained during the postdoctoral experience;

3.  Working experience in research projects in an international environment, and familiarity with management tools (e.g. shift scheduling, WBS, etc.) gained during the postdoctoral experience;

4.  Experience in data analysis and software (C, C++)

Additional desirable attributes are experience with photon or ionization detectors and/or low background techniques. Previous experience on CCDs is not required, and we expect the candidate to acquire this specific knowledge through training within the DAMIC research group.

Applicants must apply at http://tinyurl.com/y74fd2oe and upload a CV, research statement, and list of relevant publications. In addition, at least three (3) letters of reference are required. Reference letter submission information will be provided during the application process. A cover letter is optional.

Review of applications will start November 1, 2017.
