Job description:
The Department of Physics at Southern Methodist University in Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Particle Physics. The appointment will start in August 2018 or later. Outstanding candidates are invited to apply and are expected to have a Ph.D. in physics and have demonstrated experience and leadership ability within large collaborations.
Current research at the Department of Physics at SMU is concentrated in the fields of particle physics and astrophysics. The experimental program includes ATLAS at the LHC, NOvA and DUNE at Fermilab, SuperCDMS and DESI. In ATLAS SMU has major responsibilities in the area of calorimeter electronics and trigger and is involved in the upgrade program for readout electronics. The theory program is concentrated on LHC related topics and is expected to expand in the areas of theoretical astrophysics and cosmology. SMU provides substantial computing resources in support of the experimental and theoretical programs. The successful candidate is expected to develop a leading research program, supervise graduate students and to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
