Job description:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in theoretical high energy physics, broadly defined, to begin in fall 2016. Applicants in the fields of LHC phenomenology, particle astrophysics, or cosmology are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to interact closely with and augment the research program of the existing experimental high energy physics group which consists of five faculty members, plus postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate researchers. The experimental group’s primary focus is the CMS experiment at CERN’s LHC with smaller efforts in particle astrophysics experiments. The group’s work in the CMS experiment includes physics analysis topics ranging from the Standard Model (electroweak, top and b-quark physics, Higgs, QCD, etc.) to searches for different Beyond-the-Standard-Model processes, detector construction and R&D for the HL-LHC, and software and computing.
A Ph.D. degree in physics (or a related field) is required. Candidates with one or more years of postdoctoral experience are highly preferred. Applicants are expected to have a substantial research record, a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching, the potential to establish a visible, externally-funded research program in theoretical high energy physics, and an interest in education and outreach.
To be considered for this position, candidates should apply online at http://employment.unl.edu, requisition #F_150252, and complete the Faculty/Academic Administrative form. Applicants must also upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, publication list, statement of proposed research, and the names, affiliations, and contact information of at least three references. Screening of applicants will begin on December 18, 2015; however, the search will continue until a suitable candidate is found. Inquiries about the application process should be directed to Elizabeth Farleigh (efarleigh@unl.edu). Inquiries about the position should be directed to Prof. Gregory Snow, Search Committee Chair, gsnow1@unl.edu.
