THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, Department of Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral appointment with the Axion Dark-Matter eXperiment (ADMX). The initial term is one year and may be extended if mutually agreed.
ADMX, a RF-cavity search for axion dark matter in our galactic halo, is one of flagship DOE “Generation 2” dark-matter searches. It is in operation after an extensive upgrade to ultra-low noise SQUID/JPA microwave amplification and 3He cooling. Our group’s technical interests include spectral signal estimation, development of cryogenic and vacuum instrumentation, and research on resonators and quantum-limited low-noise microwave electronics. The successful applicant will share our group’s interest in experimental cosmology, broadly considered, and our interest in challenging measurements. Tasks include operation of the detector, upgrades to the cyyogenic and vacuum systems, data analysis and development of detector technology for axion searches.
ADMX US collaborating institutions include the University of Washington, the University of Florida, the University of California Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, National Radio Astronomy Observatory, and Washington University. This is a Collaboration-wide search.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy or a closely related field at time of hire.
