The astroparticle physics group of the University of Wuppertal announces the opening of a PhD student position for the IceCube experiment available immediately.

IceCube is a gigaton particle detector at the geographic South Pole deployed to measure neutrinos of astrophysical origin. Besides this main focus, the Wuppertal group pursues searches for physics beyond the Standard Model as well as the characterisation of charged cosmic rays. The candidate's research will be an extension of these data analyses, and a contribution to the planned extensions of the observatory.

Further major activities of our group include the KATRIN experiment which will measure the absolute mass scale of neutrinos. The group benefits from close connections to high energy physics groups working on the Auger observatory and ATLAS and extensive technical infrastructure and high-performance computing available in the department.

Applicants must have a qualifying degree in physics or in a neighbouring discipline at the time of recruitment. The successful candidate preferably has experience in experimental astroparticle, particle, or nuclear physics. An interest in novel detection and analysis methods is expected.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service organisations in Germany (50% E 13 TV‑L). The University of Wuppertal is an equal opportunity employer.
