Field of Interest:cs, physics.acc-phys, physics.ins-det
Deadline: 2017-10-01
Region: Middle East
Job description:
The DEMIRCI research group is offering a two-year postdoctoral fellowship, extendable to a third year based on a grant from the Turkish Scientific and Research Council, TUBITAK. The position is to be filled in late Autumn 2017 with a salary of 2800 TRY. Other benefits could be awarded depending on the qualifications of the candidate. TUBITAK's own rules, such as a maximum of seven years after obtaining PhD degree, do apply.
The position is jointly managed between Ankara and Bogazici Universities, Turkey. It aims to develop a full fledged proton linac simulation, starting from the ion source, including the Low-Energy Beam Transport and the RFQ up to the Medium-Energy Beam Transport of the drift tube.
Using a prototype that would be constructed as part of the project, electromagnetic field measurements will be taken and compared to simulation results to provide feedback for increasing the software’s predictive power. Additionally, the software will provide the necessary means to visualize in 3D all the beamline components; and will be able to provide functionality for printing the RFQ component models using a 3D printer.
The candidate is expected to participate to both programming and to the construction of a prototype, including the RF field measurements.
The current status of the design and simulation tool, DEMIRCI, can be found here: https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.07331
Qualifications
A PhD degree in physics or electronics engineering that has been awarded (or planned to be awarded) before the commencement of the position is the main requirement. The candidate must also have experience in software development for scientific computing using C++ in Linux (Windows is a plus). Candidates with experience in any of the software packages ROOT, IBSimu, Parmteq, FEMM, and in RF measurements and/or injector systems (Proton and/or Electron) will be given preference. A good command of English or Turkish is necessary.
The position could be located in Istanbul or Ankara depending on the project’s needs and the candidate’s preference.
Application
The application should be made by email to demirci.jobs@gmail.com and should include the following documents in PDF format.
