Job description:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the areas of experimental astroparticle and nuclear physics in the Physics Department at the University of Washington. Applicants are required to have obtained or have completed all requirements for the degree of Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics or a related field before the start of the appointment.
We seek a creative, highly motivated candidate with interests in both hardware and data analysis. The appointee will focus on the development, characterization and deployment of silicon-based imaging detectors to search for dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay. The appointee will participate in the DAMIC low-mass dark matter search, and contribute to the R&D program for the development of a CMOS/selenium detector to search for neutrinoless double beta decay. The postdoctoral position will be based in Seattle within the context of the Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics (CENPA).
Previous experience in one or more of the following topics is preferred: direct dark matter search experiments, neutrinoless double beta decay experiments, low radioactive background techniques, silicon detectors, CCD/CMOS imaging sensors, data/image analysis and particle physics Monte Carlo simulations.
The initial appointment is for one year, renewable annually, for up to three years. The start date will be in the Winter or Spring 2018 and no later than June 1st, 2018. The position will remain open until filled. Earlier submissions will be given priority.
