Job description:
The Theory Department of the Max Planck Institute for Physics invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in the group of Angnis Schmidt-May, with a focus on gravitational theories and their relation to cosmology. In particular, the group's research covers the following subjects:
- mathematical aspects of gravity and spin-2 field theories in general,
- gravitational theories with multiple metrics,
- gravitational theories including torsion, higher curvatures or nonlocal terms,
- cosmological aspects of extended models for gravity,
- phenomenology of spin-2 theories.
The successful applicants will have strong knowledge of classical and quantum field theory, general relativity and cosmology. They should have good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team as well as independently. Candidates must hold or be near completion of a PhD in a relevant branch of theoretical physics.
Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVÖD Bund). The contract is initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of an extension. The intended starting date is early 2018 (with some flexibility).
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are under-represented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
Applications must be uploaded from the following webpage: https://postdoc.mpp.mpg.de/cosmo/
