Experimental High Energy Physics (CMS experiment)
Universität Hamburg invites applications for several PhD positions for research in Experimental High Energy Physics (CMS experiment).
Our group consists of more than 60 members and is deeply involved in detector R&D as well as calibration and data analysis of the CMS experiment. Candidates are expected to engage in one of the following research fields:
Funding is available through the University and through third party grants of the federal initiative FSP-104 “Physics with the CMS Experiment“ by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). A close collaboration exists with other research groups in experimental and theoretical physics of the University and of DESY located on the same campus, in particular through the research cluster SFB-676 “Particles, Strings and the early Universe“ by the German Science Foundation (DFG).
Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant field and excellent communication skills are required.
The positions commence as soon as possible. They are remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and call for 50% of the standard working time per week. PhD Projects typically last three years. The fixed term nature of the contracts is based upon section 2 of the Academic Fixed-Term Labour Contract Act.

- Top precision measurements
- Rare Higgs Phenomena
- Search for supersymmetry and other physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. via boosted topologies or long lived particles.
- Machine learning
