Job description:
The Experimental Particle Physics Group at McGill University is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join the team and contribute to the local research program that focuses on the search for neutrinoless double beta decays in xenon-136.
The group at McGill is involved in data analysis and operation of the EXO-200 detector, and developments for the next-generation experiment nEXO. These developments focus on integration of small-area photon detectors, so-called silicon photomultipliers (SiPM), into arrays of larger surface area. In parallel, the group also develops techniques to extract ions from xenon gas for Ba-tagging applications.
Candidates should have a background in experimental nuclear or particle physics. Experience in detector operation and development (especially noble liquid and photon detectors), data analysis (ROOT), and Monte Carlo simulations (Geant4) would be advantageous. Candidates need to have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Ph.D. candidates should indicate when they are expecting to fulfill their Ph.D. requirements. The appointment is initially for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.
