Field of Interest:hep-ex, nucl-ex, physics.ins-det
Deadline: 2017-08-01
Region: North America
Job description:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Scholar in the field of fundamental symmetries with neutrons. The group, consisting of three faculty members (Profs. Crawford, Korsch, and Plaster), 14 graduate students, and several undergraduate students, has broad physics interests in the search for the neutron electric dipole moment, neutron beta decay, and hadronic parity/time violation, with technical expertise in magnetics, optical methods, data acquisition, data analysis, and simulations.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute a significant amount of her/his time to the group's responsibilities on the neutron electric dipole moment experiment under development for the Spallation Neutron Source, especially in areas related to magnetic field development. The candidate will also be encouraged to contribute to the group's efforts on experiments that will soon take data (e.g., the Nab neutron decay experiment at the SNS), in data analysis of completed experiments (e.g., UCNA neutron decay experiment at LANL), or in the development of future experiments.
The initial appointment will be for a fixed term of one year, with renewal contingent on both parties' mutual satisfaction and continued availability of funding. In principle, the position will be available as early as August 1, 2017.
Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted to Brad Plaster via email at brad.plaster@uky.edu. Applicants should also send a copy of a CV and publication list to B. Plaster. Review of applications will commence immediately.
The University of Kentucky is an equal opportunity employer, for which details may be found here: http://www.uky.edu/hr/ employment/uk-is-equal- opportunity-employer
