Job description:
The ARC Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET) is an international innovator in novel electronics technologies. The centre brings together more than 40 world-leading experts who will apply cutting edge science to develop a new generation of ultra-low power electronic devices.
The purpose of this position is to perform experimental research the Swinburne University of Technology. The objectives of the Swinburne node of FLEET are to realise and explore non-equilibrium topological phenomena in atomic and condensed matter systems. The postdoctoral research fellow will design and conduct experimental studies of dissipationless transport and non-equilibrium phenomena in ultra cold gases of fermionic atoms. This work will contribute towards the broader understanding of the capabilities of topological matter for use in future electronics technologies.
As the successful candidate, you will:
•Design and conduct experiments using ultra cold gases of lithium-6 Fermi atoms confined to move in 2D near a p-wave Feshbach resonance
•Design and conduct experiments using Bragg spectroscopy on 2D lithium-6 Fermi gases to study non-equilibrium enhancements to superfluidity
•Assist with the design, construction and operation of a new experimental system based on ultra cold dysprosium
•Analyse and interpret experimental data and compare these with theory
•Interact with and provide feedback to theoreticians modelling the processes of interest in order to optimise the insight gained from experiments
•Work constructively with other members of the research group and the FLEET Centre
•Publish high impact science papers
•Assist in the supervision of PhD, MSc, Honours and Summer students
•Participate in outreach activities that present FLEET research to school children and the general public.
If you are driven by new developments in physics, want to perform high impact research and build the future of electronics, we encourage you to apply. FLEET has a goal to increase its diversity across its cohorts. In particular, we provide career support initiatives for women scientists within within FLEET to create gender equity at the workplace and retain female scientists. Female applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements can be negotiated. To apply, please visit the Swinburne University Jobs Page .
