Job description:
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship associated with the Research Training Group 1670 "Mathematics inspired by String Theory and Quantum Field Theory" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), starting October 1, 2017 at the University of Hamburg. The research project in the area of mathematical physics related to string theory/supergravity/supersymmetric field theory will be led by Jan Louis and Marco Zagermann. Candidates should hold the equivalent of a Master degree in Physics by the beginning of the appointment and have a working background knowledge in general relativity/differential geometry and quantum field theory.
Hamburg offers an excellent research environment in mathematical physics with many joint activities of the Theoretical Physics Group, the DESY Theory Group and the Mathematics Department, e.g. within the Center of Mathematical Physics or the Collaborative Research Center 676 (SFB 676) "Particles, Strings and the Early Universe":
