Description

The activity of the research logistician (LR) at Université catholique de Louvain, will be divided between the two entities concerned as follows: 60% of the working time (3 days per week) within the team of the Center of Physics of Particles and Phenomenology (IRMP / CP3) and 40% (2 days per week) within the CISM management team.

Responsibilities

The LR will be responsible for the following tasks (with other team members):
 
1 / For IRMP / CP3 (Reference person for the MadGraph software):
  • Monitor the proper functioning of the hardware infrastructure (maintenance and updating of the MadGraph cluster and its access interface).
  • Ensure the perpetuation of the MadGraph code (monitoring of updates and debugging), coordinate and participate in its development.
  • Train new users and developers; Organize tutoring sessions.
  • Provide technical support to users and developers of simulation tools associated with MadGraph software.

2 / For the CISM:

 

  • Monitor the correct operation of the computer park, take the necessary measures in the event of a breakdown. 
  • Supports problems encountered in machine management, installation, and decommissioning.
  • Install and check software and base systems on UNIX.
  • Train and support new users; Facilitate training sessions and tutoring
  • Guide users on pre- and post-processing tools.
  • Assist users in the programming of scientific applications (Fortran, C ++, MatLab).
  • Support for parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP ...) and use of accelerators (GPU, Xeon Phi).

 

Qualifications and Essential Job Functions

 

  • Diploma of doctorate in sciences or engineering with experience in scientific informatics.
  • Knowledge and experience in UNIX systems management.
  • Good knowledge of scientific programming languages ​​(Fortran, C ++, MatLab).
  • Good knowledge of scripting language (Shell, Perl, Python).
  • Good knowledge of web solutions (PHP, Javascript, MySql).
  • Knowledge in the field of parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP).
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Experience in job management systems (Condor, SLURM, PBS).
  • Ability to evolve and develop new technologies and software within the team.
  • Experiment in Particle Physics and Phenomenology of Fundamental Interactions.
  • Experience with MonteCarlo methods and simulation of events in high energy collisions.
