Job description:
The Experimental Particle Physics group (PPE) at the University of Edinburgh has a significant involvement in the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The group has made substantial contributions to the study of CP violation and lifetimes in the B meson system, exotic spectroscopy, heavy quark production, flavour changing neutral currents and charmless semileptonic decays. We have significant activities in the LHCb upgrade to operate the LHCb experiment at higher luminosity in the Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector, trigger and computing upgrades.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to strengthen our activities within the LHCb Experiment. The successful candidate will be expected to make leading contributions to our physics analysis activities. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in one of the group's activities on instrumentation and computing. This includes maintenance and operation of the Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors, measuring the properties the RICH photon detectors or developing triggers for the LHCb upgrade and computing operations.
Candidates are expected to have, or to be about to submit for, a PhD in particle physics and proven expertise and technical abilities required for playing a leading role in data analysis. The position will initially be for two years, with a possibility of extension. This post is part of an STFC Ernest Rutherford fellowship award and it includes its own dedicated travel and equipment budget.
