Job description:
Position of a „Akad. Rat/Rätin“ / junior faculty (limited duration) at Universität Göttingen in Particle Physics

The Georg-August-University Göttingen, Fakulty of Physics, II. Institute of Physics aims to fill at the next possible occasion the position of a

„Akademischen Rätin/Rates auf Zeit“ / junior faculty (limited duration)

(A 13 NBesO) with 40 hours per week. The position will initially be filled for three years with a possible extension by further three years according to § 31 NHG.

The research activities will be in the particle physics working group with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in the context of the collaborative research center BMBF-FSP103. The research focus of the ATLAS experiment is the search for new phenomena, responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking, and the study of numerous physics processes relevant for physics at the TeV scale.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in student supervision, the development of the working group in Göttingen and its research activities, and a leading role in physics data analyses of ATLAS data, in particular in top-quark and Higgs boson physics. According to § 31 Abs. 3 Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (NHG), the applicants should have a university degree, a PhD in a relevant field of science or equivalent qualification, experience in experimental particle physics, Linux/UNIX, C++ and object oriented programming. Experience in detector development is desirable.

Further recruitment preconditions are specified in § 31 Abs. 3 of the Lower Saxony highschool law (NHG) in the presently valid version as well as § 1 Abs. 2 of the regulation concerning the recruitment and evaluation of junior faculty („Akademische Rätinnen und Akademische Räte“) in limited duration public officer positions. Further details can be given on request.

The position comes with teaching obligations at the level of 4 hours per week according to the presently valid teaching regulation. The applicants will have the opportunity for further qualification (Habilitation).

The university strives for an increase of female employes in areas of the university, where women are under-represented. Hence, women are particularly encouraged to apply. The university is family-friendly and supports the compatibility of science, profession and family. Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualification. Part-time work can be made possible.

Applications including CV, list of publications, a research plan and the names of three referees should be sent until 21. April 2017 to:
