Experiments:CERN-LHC-CMS
Deadline: 2017-04-30
Region: Europe
Job description:
The experimental particle physics group at the National Institute for Chemical Physics and Biophysics (NICPB) in Tallinn, Estonia, is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research associate.
The group led by senior researchers Martti Raidal, Mario Kadastik and Christian Veelken is pursuing an exciting research programme focused on analyses of proton-proton collision data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The group has made major contributions to top quark analyses, Higgs boson searches, and to tau lepton reconstruction, and plans to extend their activity to hardware projects in the future.
The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in the Higgs boson analysis, in the channel where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a top quark pair and decays into a pair of tau leptons. The analysis uses matrix element (ME) methods for signal separation. Experience with Higgs boson or top quark analyses, and with ME methods are beneficial, but not required.
As added benefit, the successful candidate can contribute to the development of tau trigger algorithms for the LHC Phase-II upgrade and to the operations of the trigger subsystem of the CMS experiment. We seek self-motivated candidates with hardware experience in particular in the domain of trigger development and/or operation.
The position is open for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of an extension to a third year upon mutual agreement. The successful candidate will be based in Tallinn, Estonia, with frequent travel to Geneva, Switzerland (CERN). Interested candidates are asked to arrange for three letters of recommendation and to submit their application with curriculum vita via email to postdoc-hep-ex@kbfi.ee .
Position is open until filled, applications will be treated in the order they are received, there exists a possibility for multiple hires.
