Post Doctorate RA - Belle II
Locations: RICHLAND, WA
Categories: Post-Graduates and Post-Docs
Job ID: 306269
Full/Part Time: Full-Time
Regular/Temporary: Temporary
Job Description:
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking outstanding applicants for a postdoctoral position. The primary location for this position will be in Richland, WA. The selected candidate will have travel to Tsukuba, Japan to participate in the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The collaboration is currently working on detector commissioning, with first collisions expected early 2018. The main goals of the experiment are to study CP violation and to search for new phenomena in rare decays.
The PNNL group has leading roles in the development of the imaging Time-Of-Propagation (iTOP) detector, networking and distributed computing, and physics studies of early data. The successful candidate will take a leading role in a physics analysis that is well aligned with these efforts. The incumbent will make significant contributions to the iTOP detector commissioning, develop big data analytics tools with emphasis on Deep Learning, and exotic physics searches. A strong background in big data analysis, and experience in C++ and Python programming are requirements for this role. Knowledge of the TensorFlow and/or Caffe is preferred.
We seek applicants with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will present the results of their research in collaboration meetings and international workshops, and prepare publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Other members of the group hold leading roles in the SuperCDMS, DarkSide, PICO, MiniCLEAN, ADMX, Project 8 and nEXO collaborations. Synergetic activities with these or other PNNL groups engaged in national security, detector development and other Laboratory priorities are explicitly encouraged.
The selected post-doctoral fellow will have responsibility for working on the Belle II experiment. Specifically, the incumbent will be working on commissioning the iTOP detector, distributed computing, and physics analysis. The post-doctoral fellow will be mentored by one of the senior researchers within the PNNL Belle II group. It is expected that the successful candidate will share responsibilities for the mentoring of summer students.
