Job description:
The DAMPE-IMP group at the Institute of modern physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Science, opens one or two postdoctoral research positions for working on the DAMPE (Dark Matter Particle Explorer) experiment.
The DAMPE has been launched the 17 December 2015 into a sun-synchronous orbit at the altitude of 500 km. The scientific objectives of DAMPE are to search for and study dark matter particles by conducting high-resolution observation of high-energy electrons and gamma rays, to study the origin of cosmic rays by observing the high energy electrons and heavy nuclei above TeV, and to study the propagation and acceleration mechanism of cosmic rays by observing high-energy gamma rays. The DAMPE is composed of four sub-detectors. The plastic scintillation array detector (PSD) is one of the sub-detectors, which was designed and built at IMP.
The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role on data analysis of DAMPE fly data on topic of PSD calibration, fluxes of the cosmic-ary, Boron-to-Carbon ratio, anisotropies of cosmic-ray. Activities are also subject to the candidate's qualifications and interests. PhD. in experimental astroparticle physics or experimental particle physics or high energy nuclear experiment by the time of the appointment is required. The applicant is expected to have a programming experience of C++/ROOT. Experience with other space-born experiments is a plus. The position is for an initial period of two years with possible extension for an another year. The base salary is about 8500*12 CNY/year (~15000 USD/year) before taxes but if the applicant wins a fellowship, this will be increased to 200000 CNY/year (~31000 USD/year).
Institute Description: The Institute of Modern Physics is a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It employs ~900 staff members including ~400 researchers. It operates the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou, which consists of the Sector Focusing Cyclotron, the Separated Sector Cyclotron, the Cooler Storage Ring, the Radioactive Ion Beam Line, and a number of experimental terminals. For more details, see: http://english.imp.cas.cn. Currently, there are about 20 postdocs/stuffs from the abroad working at IMP.
Lanzhou Description: Lanzhou is the capital and largest city of Gansu Province in Northwest China. More information about Lanzhou one can refer to the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanzhou. The typical cost of a meal at a common restaurant in Lanzhou is 10-20 CNY (~1.5-3 USD) while a taxi costs 1.5 CNY/kilometer (~ 0.25 USD/kilometer). Lanzhou is served by its airport with ~20 direct flights/day to Beijing and ~10 flights/day to Shanghai.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, a statement of research interests and a list of publications. Also, two letters of reference should be arranged.
The position is open until filled. Please specify in the subject of the email: DAMPE-IMP postdoc position-Name.
