Postdoctoral Position within the ATLAS Calorimeter Group
The Max-Planck-Institut für Physik is a research institute focussing on particle and astroparticle physics from both an experimental and a theoretical perspective. One main research activity is the participation in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The ATLAS collaboration investigates the consistency of the Standard Model with very high precision, and also extends the search for physics beyond the Standard Model to unprecedented accelerator energies.
The ATLAS Calorimeter Group at the institute has contributed to the design, construction and operation of the ATLAS Hadronic Endcap Calorimeter (HEC). Our present R&D activity concentrates on the front-end electronics for the endcap calorimeter and studies for a new forward calorimeter (sFCal). Analyses of ATLAS data in the group focus on top-quark physics and vector boson production, both in final states involving jets. The forward physics with vector-boson-scattering and vector-boson-fusion processes becomes more important at larger centre-of-mass energies.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental particle physics to strengthen our calorimeter group. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the operation of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters. In addition, participation in our R&D activities for the forward calorimeter, new front-end electronics and analysis of ATLAS data is required. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in particle physics and have experience in detector R&D and data analysis.
Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). The contract is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension. The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer committed to increasing the participation of women wherever they are underrepresented. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
For questions concerning the position offered please contact Dr. Sven Menke (menke@mpp.mpg.de). Interested scientists should send their application, including a CV and list of publications by November 15, 2015. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be received by the same date at the following address:
