Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-CMS
Deadline: 2017-03-07
Region: Europe
Job description:
The Particle Physics Division (SPP - Service de physique des particules) of the Institute of Research into the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (IRFU) opens a call for applications for a scientist staff position in particle physics in 2017.
SPP comprises 110 physicists working on a dozen international experiments. SPP scientific themes include:
· Elementary components of matter at the highest energies, with the CERN LHC collider (ATLAS, CMS) and R&D for future accelerators;
· Neutrinos: from accelerators (T2K, WA105), reactors (Double Chooz), and radioactive sources (CeSOX, Lumineu);
· Energy content of the Universe : dark matter (Edelweiss), gamma ray astronomy (H.E.S.S., CTA), and observational cosmology (Planck, SNLS, BOSS, eBOSS, DESI);
· Behavior of antihydrogen atoms in the Earth gravitational field (GBAR);
· Instrumentation for medical applications (CALIPSO).
We welcome applications from experimental particle physicists with outstanding scientific records and a marked instrumental profile, willing to develop and build detectors for the upgrades of the CMS experiment at the high luminosity LHC. A professional experience of up to about six years since the PhD (defended before Summer 2017) is recommended.
The application will be composed of:
· a Curriculum Vitæ,
· a letter of motivation,
· a description of the candidate’s scientific activity (4 pages at most),
· a description of the candidate’s research project (3 pages at most),
· a list of publications and internal notes, emphasizing the candidate’s personal contributions; the most significant ones (3 at most) should be attached,
· a list of talks at conferences, workshops, and seminars,
· 3 letters of recommendation (which should be sent directly to the e-mail address below),
· 2 to 3 names of persons to be contacted for further reference.
Complete applications should be sent in pdf-format at the latest on March 7th, 2017 to the following e-mail address: SPPrecrutement@cea.fr
Preselected candidates around the end of March 2017 will be interviewed individually around the end of April 2017.
