Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-ATLAS
Deadline: 2017-03-01
Region: North America
Job description:
The York University High Energy Physics group (http://hep.info.yorku.ca) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (http://www.physics.yorku.ca) in Toronto, Canada, has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work on the ATLAS experiment (http://atlas.ch) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (http://cern.ch) in Geneva, Switzerland. The physics interests of the York ATLAS group span the Exotics, SUSY and Higgs groups, with past topics including searches for stable massive particles, magnetic monopoles and highly charged particles.
The York ATLAS group is part of a broader Canadian effort in the construction of the inner tracker (ITk) strip detector as part of the ATLAS Phase-II upgrade. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in this project. S/he will spend approximately half of his/her time working on tasks associated with the fabrication and testing of ITk silicon sensor modules and developing expertise in DAQ electronics and firmware. The remaining time will be spent on leading an analysis within the rich ATLAS Run 2 physics program and providing supervisory support to York undergraduate and graduate students.
A recent PhD in experimental particle physics with excellent physics analysis skills is essential, as is a strong background in C++, python and Linux. Enthusiasm to participate in the ITk upgrade project is important.
The successful candidate will be based at York University in Toronto, but occasional travel within Canada and to Europe is expected.
The review of applications will begin immediately but applications will be accepted until March 1, 2017. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, a brief statement of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation emailed to Professor Wendy Taylor at taylorw@yorku.ca.
