Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:SuperNEMO, WA105/DUNE
Deadline: 2017-02-28
Region: Europe
Job description:
The 'Laboratoire d'Annecy-le-Vieux de Physique des Particules' (LAPP-CNRS/IN2P3) has an immediate opening for a 2-year postdoctoral position in the area of experimental neutrino physics.
As part of a research pole, the LAPP neutrino group is presently involved in several key neutrino experiments: the STEREO project to search for sterile neutrino at ILL reactor in Grenoble, the SuperNEMO demonstrator for neutrinoless double beta decay search at Modane underground laboratory (LSM) and the WA105/DUNE project to develop large liquid argon TPC at CERN for the future long baseline experiment DUNE to investigate CP violation in leptonic sector, mass hierarchy as well as various astrosphysics topics.
The Neutrino group is seeking a candidate to join the activities going on with the commissioning and start of data taking of the SuperNEMO demonstrator at LSM this year as a first priority, with a possible evolution towards the preparation and running of WA105/DUNE project at CERN during the appointment.
In this spirit, the successful candidate will participate to the commissioning and running of the SuperNEMO demonstrator in the Modane Underground Laboratory (LSM, France). She/he will be also involved in the analysis activity with the first data taking starting in 2017.
The LAPP neutrino group participates to the WA105 collaboration to build at CERN a very large liquid argon prototype detector working in dual phase mode. It is involved in the detector optimisation and in the construction of the demonstrator, which will take place in 2017. The commissioning and running with charged particle beam should occur in 2018.
For this second topic, the successful candidate may contribute to the commissioning and running of the WA105 detector on the CERN site as well as being involved in the simulation, reconstruction and study of the performance of the detector analysis for event reconstruction.
The weighting of both activities can be discussed and adjusted depending on the candidate experience.
The successful candidate will have leading roles in the neutrino activities at LAPP but also in important aspects of the projects with the advantage of being located in Annecy close to Modane and to CERN.
Minimum requirements: PhD degrees in Physics, experience with particle detectors, Monte-Carlo simulations and data analysis.
The position will be located in the Laboratoire de Physique des Particules d’Annecy-le-Vieux (France) but frequent trips to Modane and CERN are foreseen.
Application: interested candidates should send their scientific curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a research statement, and arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent to:
Dominique DUCHESNEAU,
Email: duchesneau@lapp.in2p3.fr
Address: LAPP, IN2P3/CNRS,
9 chemin de Bellevue, B.P. 110, Annecy-le-Vieux, 74941 Annecy cedex, FRANCE
The deadline for the application is February 28th, 2017; late applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
