Job description:
TRIUMF is Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, located on the South Campus of the University of British Columbia. We are currently accepting applications for a Research Scientist in TRIUMF's Physical Sciences Division who will participate in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
The ATLAS group at TRIUMF is strongly involved in the Higgs, Supersymmetry, and Exotics physics programs. TRIUMF built the ATLAS hadronic endcap calorimeter and hosts an ATLAS Tier-1 data centre. For the LHC phase-1 upgrades, TRIUMF is constructing thin gap muon chambers for the New Small Wheel in collaboration with a number of Canadian universities. TRIUMF is also involved in the upgrade of the liquid argon calorimeter (LAr) electronics and plans to make a significant contribution to the Silicon Inner Tracker (ITk) detector and LAr electronics as part of the phase-2 upgrades.
The successful candidate is expected to lead the development and completion of the ITk project at TRIUMF in the context of the ATLAS-Canada phase-2 upgrade efforts. The project will be developed by the TRIUMF ATLAS Group within the Physical Sciences Division in collaboration with the Science Technology Department at TRIUMF. In this context, opportunities exists for the development of detector R&D projects. He/she must have a Ph.D. and a distinguished research record including post-doctoral or faculty experience in particle physics. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in silicon detector R&D and construction is essential. Additional requirements include strong group and scientific leadership skills, and excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
This is a full time Board Appointed term position intended to lead to a continuing appointment after 5 years, and is considered equivalent to a faculty position at a Canadian university. This designation enables applications for NSERC and other peer-reviewed funding opportunities. The position includes eligibility to hold adjunct professor status at a number of associated universities including, but not limited to, any of the 19 member universities that govern TRIUMF. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive starting salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
All qualified applicants will be given serious consideration, and in the case of equal qualifications, preference will be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
When submitting applications (as per instructions below), please also include a statement of research accomplishments and interests, a list of publications, and arrange for at least 3 referees to submit reference letters directly to the email contact below.
TRIUMF is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Your complete application package should be submitted by email to recruiting@triumf.ca and will include the following in one complete PDF file:
