Deadline: 2017-02-28
Region: Europe

Job description:
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Paolo Padovani, European Southern Observatory (ESO), Garching bei München, and Elisa Resconi, Technische Universität München on the identification of the astrophysical sources of IceCube neutrinos.
This will involve:
1. tests of the scenario of blazars as possible neutrino sources;
2. study of the spectral energy distributions of possible candidates;
3. assessment of other classes of neutrino emitters;
4. investigation of a possible link between gamma-ray, neutrino, and cosmic ray sources. The ideal candidate would be an astronomer with high-energy and multi-messenger expertise.
The position is part of the newly funded Collaborative Research Centre (CRC: 1258) "Neutrinos and Dark Matter in Astro- and Particle Physics" (see https://www.ph.tum.de/latest/news/sfb-ndm/).
The position is available immediately for two years, with a possible renewal based on performance. At ESO, the researcher will enjoy an invaluable training opportunity and a vibrant environment at one of the worlds foremost observatories. Furthermore, the CRC will allow the candidate to interact with world experts on neutrinos, dark matter, and astro- and particle physics. The researcher is expected to actively participate in joint activities of the CRC.
Candidates should send a curriculum vitae, bibliography, and short (max 2 pages) statement of research interests as a single PDF under a subject heading Postdoc Position & YOUR NAME to ppadovan@eso.org and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically to the same address.
Applications received by Feb. 28, 2017 will receive full consideration.
