Job description:
The Atlas@Clermont team (http://cern.ch/atlas-clermont) is offering a two-years post-doctoral position, starting as soon as possible, to work in the ATLAS Collaboration, on data analysis and R&D for the future upgrade of the detector.
The study of the Higgs boson properties is one of the highlights of LHC Run 2 physics program. The beam energy and the luminosity delivered by the LHC collider will allow to perform direct measurements of the Top Yukawa coupling using combined production of Higgs boson and Top quarks (ttH final state).
The Atlas@Clermont team is actively involved in this study using the so-called multi-leptonic final states since LHC Run 1. The feasibility of the ttH search was established using Run 1 data (2011-2012). Improvements are foreseen for the analysis of LHC Run 2 data. The first production evidence and coupling measurement could be performed using the full Run 2 dataset (2015-2018). The future fellow is expected to play a leading role in this analysis.
In the longer term, the ATLAS detector will be upgraded to face the extreme conditions of the high luminosity LHC program, officially approved by CERN council last year. The Atlas@Clermont team has a long history in the hadronic calorimeter (design, operation, monitoring, calibration, etc ...) and naturally participates to its upgrade. The successful candidate will be involved in the readout electronics development (chip tests and characterization, iteration with engineers, etc …). Also, test beams are planned in order to compare the different options, and a major contribution from the candidate is expected.
The position is located at the Laboratoire de Physique de Clermont-Ferrand, France, with frequent trips to CERN. It is funded by CNRS with no nationality restriction. Candidates should have a PhD in particle physics and no more than 3 years of post-doctoral experience. The application of females is encouraged as Atlas@Clermont applies affirmative-action measures to ensure gender equality in the recruitment process.
Interested applicants must submit a Curriculum Vitae and a report on their research activities and interests and arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be sent to AtlasClermont.job@cern.ch. Applications will be reviewed as soon as possible and will be accepted until the position is filled.
